Program Description: This live training introduces clinicians to a psychophysiological framework for treating complex trauma with EMDR, integrating Polyvagal Theory, structural dissociation, and tri phasic oriented treatment. Emphasis is placed on client safety, self-compassion, and stabilization techniques such as the Loving Eyes Procedure and CIPOS, with hands-on practice and clinical readiness tools.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Specify three symptoms that help differentiate between PTSD and complex PTSD.
  2. Summarize the effects of complex trauma from a psychophysiological perspective, including impact on physical health, cognitive health, social health, emotional regulation, and other areas of functioning.
  3. Outline three ways in which chronic stress and fear in the “fight-or-flight” responses of the autonomic nervous system affect body functioning.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of the three pathways in the Polyvagal Ladder to assess autonomic states in complex trauma clients.
  5. Integrate understanding of primary and secondary structural dissociation of the personality in EMDR case conceptualization.
  6. Design phase-oriented EMDR treatment plans that incorporate psychophysiological principles in treatment of complex trauma.
  7. Have the ability to utilize Loving Eyes Procedure to increase sense of safety, connection, and self-compassion.
  8. Assess readiness for reprocessing in complex trauma cases.
  9. Implement Constant Installation of Present Orientation to Safety (CIPOS) to stabilize clients with high levels of dissociation.
